iOS Style Notepad - iNotes
Last updated: 28 September 2026
The short version
Your notes never leave your device. Note text, titles, checklists, tags, photos and voice recordings are stored only in this app's private storage on your phone. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
Anonymous usage statistics are collected. The app reports how it is used (which screens are opened, that a note was created, which theme is set) using Google Analytics for Firebase. It never includes anything you wrote.
There is no account, no sign-in, no sync, no advertising and no crash reporting.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you create stays in the app's private storage on your device:
- Note text, titles, checklists, tags, colours and reminder times
- Photos you attach, copied into the app's own storage
- Voice recordings you make, kept as audio files
- Your settings, such as theme and sort order
Android protects app-private storage so other apps cannot read it. Nothing in that list is transmitted, uploaded, backed up to a cloud, or shared with us or anyone else.
What the analytics collect
The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase. What it sends:
- Screens you open: such as "notes", "search", "settings" or "editor". The tag screen is reported as "tag", never as the name of your folder.
- Actions, as counts: a note was created, deleted, restored, pinned or archived; notes were exported or imported; a setting was changed and to which of its fixed options (for example theme "Dark").
- Rough shape, never content: that a new note had 2 photos, 1 recording and a body in the "100 to 499 characters" range. The length is deliberately reported as a band rather than an exact number.
- Standard device information collected by Firebase: device model, operating system version, country, language, app version, and a randomly generated app instance ID.
What the analytics never collect
- The text of any note, title or checklist item
- The names of your tags or folders
- Anything you type into search
- Your photos, your recordings, or their file names
- Your name, email address, phone number or contacts. The app never asks for these and has no account system.
- Your advertising ID. The permission that would allow it is explicitly removed from the app, and the app runs no ads and no ad campaigns.
The app instance ID is random, is not linked to you or to any account, and is destroyed when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Google processes this data as our service provider. Their handling is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Permissions, and why each exists
- Microphone: only while you are recording a voice note. Recordings are saved to the note and stay on your device.
- Notifications: to show reminders you have set.
- Exact alarms: so a reminder arrives at the minute you asked for. If you refuse this, reminders still work, just less precisely.
- Run at startup: to re-book your reminders after the phone restarts. Android discards scheduled alarms on reboot, so without this your reminders would silently stop.
- Internet: used only to send the anonymous usage statistics described above. Your notes are not transmitted over it.
Speech recognition
There is none. The app has no dictation and no transcription, and it never hands your audio to a speech recogniser or to any other app. A voice note is recorded, stored in this app's private storage, and played back. That is all that happens to it.
An earlier version did offer both, and this section used to explain that the audio was passed to the recogniser built into your device. Neither feature exists any more.
Backups
Android's automatic backup is switched off for this app. Your notes are not copied to Google Drive.
This is deliberate, and it has a cost: if you lose your phone or wipe it, the notes are gone. Use Settings → Export notes to save a copy somewhere you control. The export is one file carrying everything: your notes together with their photos and voice recordings, and Import reads it back.
Children
The app has no ads, no purchases and no social features, and never collects a name, an email address or any other personal detail from anyone, children included. The anonymous usage statistics described above are collected from all users regardless of age; they contain nothing that identifies a person.
Your data, your control
- Delete a note in the app. It waits 30 days in the Trash, then goes for good.
- Export everything (notes, photos and voice recordings) to a single file with Settings → Export notes.
- Uninstalling removes all of it permanently: notes, photos and recordings. Analytics collection ends with it.
Because your notes never reach us, there is nothing of yours for us to delete, export or disclose on request. The analytics we do hold are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you, which means we cannot single out your records to delete them either; there is no identifier to look you up by.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Any release that alters what the app does with your data will say so in its release notes.
