Rainy: Rain Sounds for Sleep & Relax ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information our Android and iOS apps collect, how it is used, and the choices you have.
By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
a) Information we do not collect
We do not ask for or collect your real name, email address, phone number, postal address, contacts, photos, or precise location. You do not need an account to use the app.
b) Information collected automatically
To keep the app working and improve it, we collect limited technical information:
- Device type and model
- Operating system and version (Android or iOS)
- App version
- App usage statistics, such as which sounds are played, which features are used (Mixer, Timer, Favorites, etc.), and session duration
- Crash reports, which include an anonymous installation identifier, device model, operating system version, app version, and technical details of the crash
c) Information you choose to provide
Some features let you send us content:
- Community Chat: the display name (a nickname you choose) and the messages you post are stored and shown to other users of the app in real time. Each message also carries your current daily listening streak (a number of days), which is shown as a badge next to your name.
- Reports: if you report a message, we receive the reported message's text, the anonymous ID of the person who posted it, and your anonymous ID.
- Feedback: if you use "Send Feedback", we receive the message you type, together with your app version, device model, and operating system version.
Content you provide through these features is linked to an anonymous ID created by Google Firebase. It is not linked to your real identity. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in your display name, chat messages, or feedback.
d) Information stored only on your device
Your favorites, saved mixes, listening statistics, settings, bedtime reminder time, and the list of chat users you have blocked are stored only on your device. We cannot see them, and they are deleted when you uninstall the app.
2. Advertising (Android only)
The Android app displays ads from Google AdMob. The iOS app does not display ads.
On Android, AdMob may collect:
- Advertising ID (if available)
- Device information
- Approximate location (country level only)
This information is used to show ads and measure their performance. You can reset your Advertising ID or limit ad personalization in your device settings.
We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
3. Analytics and Crash Reporting
We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used, and Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix crashes. This data is linked to an anonymous identifier, is not used to identify you, and helps us improve features, fix bugs, and improve the overall experience.
4. Community Chat Rules and Moderation
To use Community Chat, you agree to our community rules. Harassment, hate speech, sexual content, threats, spam, and sharing other people's personal information are not allowed, and we have zero tolerance for objectionable content.
To keep the community safe:
- A basic filter masks common offensive words.
- You can long-press any message to report it or to block its sender. Blocking hides that person's messages on your device.
- We review reports within 24 hours. We may remove content and permanently ban users who break these rules.
Chat avatars are generated by DiceBear (dicebear.com) from each user's anonymous ID. The anonymous ID is sent to DiceBear to create the image. Your messages and display name are not sent.
5. Third-Party Services
The app uses these third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

6. Data Retention and Deletion
- Chat messages, reports, and feedback are kept for as long as needed to run the chat and support the app, unless you ask us to delete them.
- Analytics and crash data are kept according to Google Firebase's retention settings.
- To request deletion of your chat messages or feedback, email us at the address below. Because we do not know who you are, tell us your chat display name and, if possible, the approximate date of your messages, so we can find them.
7. Permissions Used
The app requests only what it needs:
- Internet access (for chat, feedback, analytics, crash reports, and, on Android, ads)
- Notifications (for the optional bedtime reminder and, on Android, the playback controls)
- Background audio (so sounds keep playing while your screen is locked)
We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, files or media, or location (GPS).
8. Children's Privacy
Rainy is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Community Chat or Feedback, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
9. Data Security
Data sent between the app and our services is encrypted in transit. We take reasonable measures to protect it, but no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
